Facts for Safety

Zonder feiten is er geen veiligheid.

En op een bepaald moment denk je

"ik snap het nu"

Systems designed to protect people — children, parents, partners

— rely on accurate facts, proper investigation and accountability.

When those elements are missing, safety decisions can cause

harm instead of preventing it.

Facts for Safety is a public-interest initiative calling for

evidence-based decision-making, transparency and independent oversight across

child protection and domestic violence response systems

in the Netherlands.

Not emotion.

Not assumptions.

Facts.

Because without facts, there is no safety.

We Are For Reform For Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Victims

No stories published. No names shared. Data and reform only

Whether you are a parent, teacher or concerned citizen. By adding your name can help change the system...

Why This Matters

When systems act without fact-finding, transparency or accountability:
• decisions are made on incomplete evidence
• families and survivors lose trust and safety
• systemic reform becomes impossible

WE ASK THAT THESE ORGANISATIONS MUST ABIDE BY

FACT FINDING &/OR MAKE THE REFERRAL:

Child protection services

Domestic violence response services

Shelter / safe house

Police

Court / legal system

School

"This will never happen to me....."

These people thought so too...

Mary 48 Haarlem - 3 kids. Divorced 10 years

Her daughter (14 years old) decided to make a false claim to JB. Claiming her mother hit her. Mary never believed in "corporal punishment" so this was untrue. She knew her ex-husband had been subtly alienating her children against her for years... She knew this but thought to not make it a big deal because one day her children would see the truth, and she decided to "ignore" it...

Until the day JB turned up claiming she abused her daughter.

Mary asked if she can show evidence and the JB worker said "We don't care about your evidence".

(name withheld) 46 Amsterdam - 1 kid. Divorced 1 year

The father had always been non-involved in their child's upbringing as he was busy "building his empire" while the mother stayed home. After years of private emotional, financial, physical control and abuse she left, and then his abuse went from a 7/10 to a night where he strangled her, she fought for her life and got away. She called the police, he looked calm, cleaned up his attack and claimed she attacked him for no reason and strangled herself... They put her in prison. Veilig Thuis refused to look at new evidence including by the morning a hospital report and forensic report.... They told the judge she looked "unkempt" therefore she was a danger to her child. The Blijf group also refused to look at even more new evidence, by then a police report that the father was now charged for the strangualtion, and her cries of desperation were called "too emotional to be a good mother". JB had a trainee on the job with no supervisor or SVP and she too refused too even take the new police evidence into consideration claiming "we don't investigate" - The opposite of the JB's own website information.

Every single organisation who was there to protect a mother and child failed the Meldcode Step 1 and 2....

What these people didn't know at the time...

You CAN protect yourself and your loved ones..

Join parents and professionals

calling for reform

We need to show the policy makers that the system must change. The Meldcode is not working. Staff are not trained.

We all deserve to feel safe. We CAN fix this with your help.

Your structured input helps reveal patterns we can’t ignore.

None of this is personal — it’s systemic.

No cases published. No individuals named. Public interest only.

Whether you are a parent, professional, or survivor, your input strengthens the evidence we need for reform.

This website has two purposes

1. Understand Your Legal Rights

Parents and families are entitled to clear legal protections.
Under Dutch law, professionals are required to:

Follow the Meldcode Huiselijk Geweld en Kindermishandeling

Provide access to personal data in accordance with GDPR

Apply the Jeugdwet correctly — it does not override GDPR rights or justify withholding information

Knowing these rights is essential to safeguarding both children and families.

2. Change The System For The Better

We are calling for structural reform where safety decisions are made.

What we are asking for:

Mandatory fact-finding before intervention

Transparency and timely access to records

Independent national oversight

Child-centred decisions grounded in evidence, not assumptions

Because without facts, there is no safety.

CHANGE BEGINS WHEN INDIVIDUALS ARE NO LONGER ISOLATED, BUT RECOGNISED TOGETHER.

In less than 5 minutes your thoughts can help the progress.....

*Why we ask these survey questions

Facts for Safety collects structured, anonymous experiences to identify systemic gaps in child protection and domestic violence response systems in the Netherlands. This form is not for reporting individual cases, naming professionals, or sharing sensitive details. We do not publish stories or allegations. Your responses are used only in aggregated form to identify patterns related to:

• Fact-finding

• Risk assessment

• Transparency

• Oversight

• Accountability

By keeping responses factual and structured, we can responsibly highlight where systems fail to meet their own legal standards — and where reform is needed.

For many people, there is a moment of clarity when the process no longer aligns with the facts. Ik snap het nu.

When did you "snap het"?

For some, it was a report that didn’t match reality.

For others, a process that escalated without investigation.

Or silence where there should have been oversight.

Different paths. Same conclusion.
